If they are old, worn, or in really remote locations, it can be cheaper to abandon the equipment than to pay to have it taken down and moved, this is especially true of heavy dozers, this one was about the size of a D6, so that would put the weight around 30-45 thousand pounds, while that would fit on one flatbed with out being broken, getting a flatbed to the track and putting a nonfunctional track on said flatbed probably makes it cost prohibitive. That’s really sad though, this pieces of machinery is also a piece of history, its been a long time since Cat used a pulley system to lift the blade.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_C8rDKGHgDdY/Safb0lZz81I/AAAAAAAABS0/Rzk3_SUX5RE/s400/011.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307452382319473490" />Thordrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02483497564571489980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147117604760989235.post-46346800939732353922009-02-23T04:56:00.000-08:002009-02-23T05:04:39.209-08:00WANT!!!1!!1!!factorial!!!!1!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 345px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_C8rDKGHgDdY/SaKenl7t9aI/AAAAAAAABSc/S7K3LocotBI/s400/optimus_maximus.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5305977714030540194" />

I love thinkgeekThordrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02483497564571489980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147117604760989235.post-71951402887450877742009-02-20T08:25:00.000-08:002009-02-20T08:37:33.617-08:00BANG<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 271px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_C8rDKGHgDdY/SZ7Z5KF29qI/AAAAAAAABSU/ujDXyvjxCpE/s400/earthquake.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5304916987073722018" />

See that little red star? That is the epicenter of an earthquake this morning, about 700 feet from where I was standing. There are a lot of minor quakes like that out here in the Geysers, in a one hour time span around that quake, there was a total of seven small quakes. What made this one interesting to me was the fact that I was practically on top of the epicenter, it didn't even feel like a regular quake, just a big BANG! (somewhat gruesome)I stepped out the house my boss rents for us near The Geysers in NorCal this morning, leaving early to head to the auto parts store (I drive an '81 jeep, this is a common occurrence) then off to work, I walked around the house and saw something I hadn't ever seen before, except on TV. Now the people around here are pretty laid back, dope smoking hippies for the most part, none of the people around this area even cuss (except for the roughnecks I work with, go figure, roughnecks cuss). So what I saw really didn't fit in with the smiling hippies, the jays that eat the birdseed we toss out on the deck, or the deer that wander though the yard. What I saw really brought home the old saying "It is better to be the hammer than the nail".

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_C8rDKGHgDdY/SW_JsmSPwoI/AAAAAAAABQA/sPuQECznC90/s400/DSC01634.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291669855212126850" />

I belive this to be a juvinle peregrineThordrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02483497564571489980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147117604760989235.post-31201787456824252262008-12-05T17:06:00.001-08:002008-12-06T01:01:31.915-08:00LOLgeothermalOrmat Technologies
Clean, renewable energy

Your doing it right!

Note, the full pic is 8.55M, it's eleven ten megapixel pictures stitched together
its big enough you can actually read the rig name on the mastThordrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02483497564571489980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147117604760989235.post-29986592999490404712008-12-04T21:28:00.000-08:002008-12-04T21:29:41.494-08:00mmmmmmmm, bacon<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 309px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_C8rDKGHgDdY/STi8EBJRrII/AAAAAAAABPw/KmQ8tOv7P4Y/s400/2129889439_efe6cc3215_o.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5276173740677377154" />

TH cosmic varianceThordrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02483497564571489980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147117604760989235.post-61843367431106620192008-11-29T16:42:00.000-08:002008-12-12T09:16:18.912-08:00An Accreationary Wedge is CommingAn Accreationary Wedge is coming!
An Accreationary Wedge is coming!

This one; Accretionary Wedge <del>#16</del> #15, Recent Advancements (recent and/or noteable advancements that have directly affected your expertise, interests, or the work you do).

Not this one:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 295px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_C8rDKGHgDdY/STHk1wyHq2I/AAAAAAAABPo/M8Cx7zQY_nw/s400/Subduction01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5274248250906880866" />

It shall be hosted right where your looking, this entry makes a nice little place holder. The real problem with this stuff is its cost, its not cheap. It is normally separated form NaCl and other minerals from salt domes and other sources of brine (my favorite is the basins seen from Dead Horse Point, Utah, even though it is rather disruptive to the scenery). Some care must be taken with it as it can interfere with electrical function of the heart.
This lump of claystone/siltstone was saturated with some of the solution in the well and was circulated out of the well bore. It started to dry in my petri dish and sprouted KCl hairs as the crystals nucleated on the surface of the clay. Pretty much formed these hairs in about 24 hours of exposure to air.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_C8rDKGHgDdY/SOzAkviRuyI/AAAAAAAAA3Y/L6Nzbh6QhYo/s400/DSC01296.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254786602702584610" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_C8rDKGHgDdY/SOzAk9HRuQI/AAAAAAAAA3g/1hqNlOHqWt0/s400/DSC01298.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254786606347434242" />

and just a pretty pick, here is Nabors 58, with some "sort of" noctilucent clouds.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_C8rDKGHgDdY/SOzAlBzWC5I/AAAAAAAAA3o/ipjMuGqWbas/s400/DSC01309.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254786607606008722" />
the sun was already going over the mountains to the west.Thordrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02483497564571489980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147117604760989235.post-23991948893738956042008-10-04T23:13:00.000-07:002008-10-05T00:03:26.052-07:00Civics Lessons, A RantSo, I get to work, talk with Dave before I relieve him for the next twelve hours, boot up my laptop and check my email. One of the things I receive is a feed from MSNBC news, and they had this nifty little article from the AP about mental heath parity bill being tucked in with the bail out bill that congress just passed. I thought to myself for a bit, stewing, getting angrier. So I went off and researched the article and found it. It came from the Lacrosse Tribune out of Lacrosse Wisconsin by AP writer Kevin Freking. Kevin… dude, time to go take some remedial high school civics classes. The Mental Health Parity Act was not tacked onto the bail out, the bail out was tacked onto the MHPA, the difference, while subtle to most Americas (and that is unfortunate) was critical by the fraking Constitution of the United States of America. *exasperated sigh* the Senate has the powers of “advise and consent” (treaty and appointment approval), and the House has the powers of impeachment (trial in the Senate) and powers of Appropriations (article I, section 7), i.e. all spending bills must originate in the House of Representatives. Therefore, for the Senate to get the ball rolling they had to tack the 0.7 Teradollar bailout onto another bill, it could not ride out of the senate on its own. That other bill just happened to be the Mental Health Parity Act. Kevin, you are a reporter, reporting on something quite critical to the function of the United States, it may seem pedantic to point it out, but the error is important, and too much knowledge of how the government works has been lost to the average citizen to reinforce the ignorance.

EDIT: Am I tilting at windmills here?Thordrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02483497564571489980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147117604760989235.post-47069057188641317102008-10-01T00:01:00.000-07:002008-10-02T06:10:22.652-07:00Happy Birthday NasaEdit: NASA was created July 29, 1958 but did not start operation as an entity untill October 01, 1958.

Keep up the good work.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_C8rDKGHgDdY/SOMWSSUVB5I/AAAAAAAAA3Q/mz-ToKwcubo/s400/Nasa.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5252066093854689170" />Thordrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02483497564571489980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147117604760989235.post-68896747123206365192008-09-30T00:15:00.000-07:002008-09-30T00:18:21.659-07:00I want to go playWant to come over for a visit?

Door to Hell in Antarctica - Watch more free videos
I snagged that from the Bad AstronomerThordrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02483497564571489980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147117604760989235.post-39404928417185789682008-09-28T07:07:00.000-07:002008-09-28T07:21:34.442-07:00_______ with wingsIf this is a "rat with wings"<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_C8rDKGHgDdY/SN-RwgCdnMI/AAAAAAAAA3A/9UwWen13FJ0/s400/Columba_livia_Luc_Viatour.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251075952957299906" />

then what do you call one of these?
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_C8rDKGHgDdY/SN-Rw29d7nI/AAAAAAAAA3I/kGg-5cYu4RY/s400/DSC01504.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251075959110364786" />Thordrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02483497564571489980noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147117604760989235.post-36206370382897536552008-09-22T23:39:00.000-07:002008-09-22T23:49:24.354-07:00photo memeTake a picture o' yourself right now. But I went to see said movie and just had to write down my thoughts, such as they are:
One, I love Vin Diesel, yes his movies or often weak, but come on, XXX was a shitload of fun. He is a lot like Kevin Costner; Costner always plays Costner in movies, so does Diesel. This movie is no exception. On the other hand, it’s exactly what we expected from Diesel.
Two, it's a very Calontiri movie, everybody dies, and nobody gets laid. Toorop's nemesis dies, the tigers die, bystanders die, the guy in the cage dies, more bystanders die, Toorop’s associate dies, Aurora's chaperon dies, Aurora's creator dies, Toorop dies ... twice, and Aurora dies... that one I don’t get, why did she die? Her death did not advance the plot (that I could tell). Oh ya, and her "mother" doesn't.... there is so much left dangling all over this movie, I then find out why, Fox Studios cut 70 minutes out of the movie, the editing was so bad, that the director disavowed the movie. WTF.
I hope this movie doesn’t take long to come out on DVD, in a directors cut, it will be hyper violent, but that’s to be expected, but it should make more sense. I truly hate it when a movie leaves me so dissatisfied. 1 out of 4 stars.Thordrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02483497564571489980noreply@blogger.com0
